It is a fact that General Sarath Fonseka did a massive role in winning the war against brutal tiger terrorists LTTE. His war strategies are known to be among the best strategies and it is not a secret that many a soldiers compare Gen. Fonseka’s war strategies with that of Gen. Denzil Kobbekaduwa who almost captured LTTE leader Velupillei Prabhakaran during the famous Vadamarachchi operation in 1987.
However, then president Hon. J. R. Jayawardene was forced to abandon the military operation by the Indian government. This was followed up by the signing of the Indo-Sri Lanka Peace Accord which is now considered as one of the biggest political mistakes made by both India and Sri Lanka.
Since then, it took 22 long years to see the end of the brutal LTTE terrorist leader and its military operations. For the record, LTTE leader was killed on 18th May 2009. It was truly a memorable day for all “genuine Sri Lankans”. Gen. Fonseka was a true war hero. There couldn’t have been a single “true Sri Lankan” who did not believe that Gen. Fonseka was a true war hero…!
Unfortunately, things didn’t last that long. Most of us felt sad when we first heard that Gen. Fonseka wanted to enter into politics. We as professionals do not believe Sri Lankan politics have room for true professionals. Unlike a rare case of Mr. Udaya Gammanpila, who now is a Minister in the Western Province Council, there is hardly any “true” professionals involved in politics with a true love to the nation. Therefore, we were in a state of shock when we first heard Gen. Fonseka enteiring politics with the backing of JVP and UNP which were two completely mismatching parties in Sri Lankan politics.
The events followed that are now in history. However, here, we want to analyse the reason for the the 3 year sentence given against Gen. Fonseka. This court case was against Gen. Fonseka who had publicly stated that his “boss” – Defense Secretary, Mr. Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had ordered to kill any LTTE who would want to surrender to the Army. Well… we all were again severely shaken when this news article published on news papers..!! After this, personally, most of us started to think twice about the personality of once a war hero. His actions gave fuel to so called Human Rights (HR) Agencies who turns blind eye to grave Human Rights violations committed by powerful nations and try to find a slightest mistake made by less powerful nations and try to devastate such nations. LTTE controlled Tamil Diaspora saw this as a great opportunity and started finding facts against Sri Lanka through the loyalists of Gen. Fonseka and started to use the popular western policy of divide and rule…!
When looking back, this was a political blunder made by Gen. Fonseka. In simple terms, Gen. Fonseka dug his own grave by turning into accuse his own team mates who were involved in winning the war. Useless JVP and some sections of UNP (who wanted to see the fall of UNP) did most of the hard work to push Gen. Fonseka into this level where there was not turning back for him.
When the whole scenario was taken to courts, it all was written on the wall. Finally, a verdict was given and Gen. Fonseka was jailed for 3 years. Hands down…. we have to accept the verdict given by the court. After all, thats the only place we could have some sort of faith on. We still do not have any idea about the base behind the sentence period being 3 years.
However, now we see a bunch of shameless politicians and their henchmen trying to convert this sentence for their own good. Our eyes went to a Facebook wall post written by a “notorious brother” of a great cricketing legend. This guy went on to challenge the court order..!! What a shame…!! A Playboy challenging a court order..!! We have many facts about this guy who has become a nuisance to a great cricketing family. This is why we decided to write about this person’s sudden patriotic behaviour. We hate to see such cowardly acts. The jokers trying to take advantage from a fall of a war hero. We have no doubt about this “playboy” cricketing brother is preparing the ground to step into politics. He has already shown to the Sri Lankan public that he has all what is needed to enter into dirty politics in Sri Lanka..!!
Furthermore, it is extremely sad to see popular news sites in Sri Lanka deleting/rejecting genuine comments made by genuine readers for absolutely no reason but probably for such comments being against their political alignment.
We can rest assure on this site, we respect any genuine comment made on this article and we welcome positive and negative comments as long as there is no filth and baseless direct character accusation.

We are really sad about what has happened to this war hero who has sacrificed better part of his life to eradicate the unwanted war which
all srilankan suffered nearly a three decades. What ever said and done
majority of people in this country vehemently oppose of the predicament
with which this brave soldier is being placed with. Although our leaders
very often try to preach the supreme teachings of Lord Buddha, practically
they work otherwise. It is high time to think of the precious saying of
Lord Buddha’Nahi Vereni Verani’

we are amazed with the ungrateful people of the sri lanka ,there were many military general did not want to end the war due to they did not know how to end it.it is not an effort of defense minister.the credit have to go to all the three military ( navy, army ,air force )it was a united sri lankan war.we show the world that we have unity.if Mr SF is a traitor he would have captured sri lanka as HITLER/ZIAUL HAQ / GADDAFI OR PIDEL CASTRO AND MANY MORE……. Mr S.Fonseka’s biggest mistake in life time was entering the sri lankan politics ( dirtiest politics in the world ). Expecting that its genuine which is not.we do not need a hero or a faithful man to this country.Mr S.Fonseka can win wars but he can never win the back bitters. people will realize this mistake one day for sure.75% of the people in sri lanka do not know the true situation of sri lanka.

Sinhala Budhists are God fearing people. What happened in East Pakistan in 1971 did not happen here. Tamilians do not have Family Name as a tradition. In USA it is Last Name. Honourable Karu Jayasuriya should become the next President and make all from Denzil Lakshman Kobbekaduwa onwards 4 star Generals and restore everything to Sarath Foseka, too. Democracy is slow and democratic changes are permanent. I was born on December 27, 1970. In 1970 I went to the Peradeniya Campus. I returned home in November 1997 after 16 years in North America.

It seems the article of yours is a balanced statement to the people who do not know the real situation in the country. This idea, of the foolishness of General Sarath Fonseka entering into politics, engineered and originated by the regime because his candidature was against Mahinda Rajapakse. If by any chance General agreed to enter into politics behind or following Mahinda on his side, the General would be hailed and praised with all honor. The plain truth that why General is suffering now because he went against this power greedy Rajapakses. Lot of fools including this corrupt regime say that General was tricked and lured by JVP and UNP. The man who lured and deceived the world’s most ruthless terrorist could not be lured and deceived by mere jackals. And why General went against these culprits in white dresses and shawls ? When he was a Major General and shouldering the great task of defeating the enemy he saw and sensed the corruptions going on and billions of rupees pilfering by these corrupt Rajapakses in the name of war. And that’s where he was determined to put the country into correct path. But the cunning jackals with state power robbed the votes and sent the General to jail with false allegations maneuvered by henchmen consisted of illegal corrupt officers of the army who were punished by General Fonseka earlier. It was like a Lion bitten by the bone licking jackals. The present verdict too given by crippled judiciary with henchmen and henchwomen of corrupt Rajapakse regime is based on framed witnesses given by a proven dishonest woman who lied in the court of law. As this article says the verdict was written on the walls of Temple Trees and passed and forced on to the blind judiciary to be given as a birthday present
to Rajapakse. Why on earth the decision to be given on this cursed day? Coincidence ? Shame !

@ Deshapriya… unfortunately your comment and your thinking seems to be way too much based on assumptions. Nowhere in this article we have stated that the verdict given to SF was written on the walls of Temple Trees…!!! Still, as independent bloggers who loves our mother nation and not being paid or influenced by MR regime or any supporters of SF, we respect your opinion and allow bloggers like you to express their views freely on our web site. But please be mindful when writing your comment as we would have easily thrashed your comment as you have completely misread our writing to fit to your own mindset.
The suspiciousness which seems to be swaying in your mind forced us to write this lengthy reply comment. We have been critical on the MR and his certain policies and also ruthless on anyone backing Tigers and betray the nation. And for the record, we also hate Sri Lankans who get free education from kindergarden till becoming an engineer or a doctor from Sri Lankan public money and settle down in a foreign nation without giving back a cent to the mother nation…!!
Coming back to SF case…, if you look at the entire scenario during the presidential election with a balanced frame of mind, you simply couldn’t have expected SF to act against corruption while being backed by UNP…! If you still think yes he had an ounce of chance to do it, well… my friend, you could be highly mistaken, but we still respect your opinion. At the same time, we suggest you do your home work and find out more on the credentials of the politicians within UNP.
Furthermore, if you thought SF would have built a solid government with the backing of JVP and UNP in Sri Lankan political culture, then again we think, you were highly mistaken. But we still respect your political view and would not have any resistance allowing you to express your view. But as we were addressing all segments of the Sri Lankan public through this site, we do no want to take our readers into a dream world. We love looking at facts as they are.
Yes, you are correct on one fact. Had SF stepped into politics through the MR regime, he would have been a “Super Hit”. But again we have to disagree with you ‘coz you continue to say that SF didn’t join MR regime coz MR regime was so corrupt. However, we have a doubt here…. If SF was “ever so clean”, why did he allow his son-in-law to do business with army? Forget about arms or any other “equipment”…. even selling pencils wouldn’t have been nice, right??? So, we do not believe that SF is super clean and wanted to create a dream Sri Lanka without corruption. At the same time, we seriously think that there is plenty of room for honest and uncorrupt politicians in MR Regime. In fact, there are few that we know of very well. So, if SF was “super clean” and wanted to do some serious work to the nation he could have done so by being a part of the MR regime, even with difficulties.
We do not praise MR regime or SF except for their good work done for the mother land. But we are extremely critical on anyone who goes against motherland. We also don’t live in the dream world of expecting a corruption free political culture in Sri Lanka. We want to see this country recovering from the losses made during the war and thrashing away HR violation allegations by US and UK lead western junkies…! SF trying to help those western junkies’ cause by talking about “white flags” made us to think more seriously about his political agenda…!!
However, we firmly believe that SF did all the good until winning war and when things didn’t look favorable on him, he started to look extremely unprofessional and unacceptable to the public. The way he behaved in front of media was way too childish and would never have won votes except anger from regular citizens. In our opinion, SF killed his own vote base. Eventually, he ended up getting the party votes but not many for his personality.
About your views on Vote rigging…. again, we need to remind you that you may be living in you own assumptions here. When you have some time, please try to think with a balanced mind and analyze about possible vote rigging situation during the election. our article on this issue (http://slelections2010.com/presidential-elections-2010/election-rigging-facts-hype) might help your cause.
At this point of time, the last thing we want to see our own Sri Lankans do is to criticize a Sri Lankan court order. Please don’t do that. That’s bringing total discredit to the entire nation. The western media is waiting for people like you to express such viewpoints. So, if you are a genuine lover of this mother nation, think twice on what we said above. If you got it in good faith, we could be happy to have educated at least one individual. If you didn’t, we still are happy ‘coz we gave it a try..!!
good luck

We really appreciate your effort in trying to analyze SF saga with an open & a balanced mind though it ends up with a big ? mark. Are all your contentions arguments & reasoning justified.
See para 7.Matter was refered to courts and verdict was written on the wall etc.. etc.. and base for 3 yrs sentence not known etc….
Your slip is showing.Though you have not directly admitted, the truth is that SF is victimized, inhumanly.A victim of dirty circumstances.
In a country where LKR 10,000,000/- is spent on “carpetting” a kilometre of an existing rural road way,In a country where a politician with a mere 5 yrs service is allowed a mointhly pension of minimum 50,000/-for the life time,Sitting in a tender board with the knowladge that a relative of yours is an applicant,is a crime.
God save this half rotten nation that is SRI LANKA.
Thanks all the same for your genuine contribution.
